Borongan City Division Revives English Program Activities

BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar -- After nearly two years of abstention from the conduct of academic competitions due to the menace of the COVID-19 pandemic, partial schools within the Borongan City Division have revitalized the vigor of the former annual competitions that celebrate the English Month and Reading Month, in December 2021.

Group category competitions commenced within the participants' respective schools while the Individual category competitions were conducted at the City Division Office both with the supervision of the coaches and conductors.

The stakeholders of the Borongan City Division called for activities to go on, as the Education Program Supervisor (EPS) in English, Lorie Emmanuel Arago, stressed, the education sector does not want to hamper students' learning.

"We were mandated to push the activities within this school year for we should not be daunted even amid the pandemic. We should think of something that should spark interest in our learners - something that would make them think that they are still learning," he said.

Arago uttered that the program activities have been limited to only those who were able to put the mandate into operation.

"Some learning areas found it hard to take part and there was also the restraint of some of the children themselves especially in terms of seeking familial consent to participate. The possibility of aggravating circumstances was very eminent," he spoke.

Nevertheless, Arago equaled the anticipation of having the conduct of such activities spark more learners.

"As we are now slowly being allowed to gather -- subject to the protocols, we are looking into having this in a larger scale to attract more participants. We plan on doing online journalism and then face-to-face, by August or September, so that there will be extensive learning and preparation for the regional activities," he brought out.

Predicaments in the pitfall of a pandemic are not enough to shackle education.

Arago looks into the same prospect. He deems that learning should only ever be furthered.

"There is no stopping education. Even if you are secluded or even if you are confined to one place and you are alone, there is no stopping to your learning."
