BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar -- Eastern Samar National Comprehensive High School (ESNCHS) implements a new electoral system for the 2021-2022 Supreme Student Government (SSG) elections under the new normal.
In the school’s pursuit to continue bringing out learners' leadership potential and developing students' societal awareness through participatory democracy, significant changes were made during this year's campaign period as the ESNCHS SSG Commission on Elections (COMELEC) organized all polling exercises in accordance with the essential public health standards to ensure a safe, clean, and honest election despite the lingering risks of COVID-19.
Following the Interim Guidelines on Student Government Elections issued by the Department of Education (DepEd), the SSG COMELEC established an alternative system for submitting Election Application Packets (EAP) wherein aspiring student leaders can submit either hard or soft copy applications to prevent crowding and mass gatherings.
Similarly, student voters had the choice of either appointing nominees online by filling out Google forms or manually shading ballots that are physically deposited in a campus drop box.
Furthermore, the highly anticipated results were announced digitally using the school's official online portals, after conducting an on-campus manual vote-counting in line with the minimum public health standards.
Despite the inevitable technical difficulties during the election season, the SSG COMELEC has shown incredible resilience and eagerness in breaking down barriers by easily adapting to new settings and efficiently developing solutions even in the most difficult situations.
This successful implementation was only made possible through the collaborative efforts of Class Advisers and COMELEC members, as well as SSG Adviser Jolly A. Gallego, SSG-COMELEC Adviser Maria Eva A. Muchamiel, and SSG Coordinator Edgar Nelson A. Capito.
