SHS-TVL Limited F2F Classes, Approved in ESNCHS

BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar -- Eastern Samar National Comprehensive High School (ESNCHS) finally reopens its gates for the commencement of limited face-to-face classes for Grade 12 Senior High School students under Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track on Monday, March 7, 2022, after two years of online and modular learning.

ESNCHS has been given a go-signal to start selective on-site classes after District and Division officers visited the campus for inspection on Thursday morning, March 3.

The District In-charge Norieta Alpez and the Borongan City Division team of Jesus Tentativa, Special Program Education Supervisor (SPES); Larry Alde, Learners' Information System (LIS) Head; and Junilou Dulfo, School Governance and Operations Division (SGOD) Chief supervised the school to see if it was ready for implementation, on the same day.

Thereafter, a parents orientation and a simulation was held to provide the needed information regarding the school’s plans for face-to-face classes. Through this, topics such as existing protocols, protective measures, hygiene protocols, traffic management, safety measures, class program, teaching personnel, and school contingency plans, were discussed.

The implementation will involve Grade 12 Senior High School students from the curriculum Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL), specifically those from the strands: Caregiving, Cookery, and Electrical Installation Maintenance (EIM).

To enable the conduct of minimum health and safety protocols, ESNCHS has accommodated the first students to respond to the call for participants for the on-site sessions. 15 students each for Cookery and Caregiving, and 13 students for EIM. Therefore, only a total of 43 students were approved to participate.

The school required all participants to submit a parental consent and waiver. Participating teachers and students are fully vaccinated, though not mandatory, this preventive measure was highly advised.

Below is the list of teachers who will handle subjects for TVL:

Inquiries, Investigations and Immersion (3I’s) - Angelica L. Alea

Physical Education (PE) - Sherrylyn Joy B. Discar

Media and Information Literacy (MIL) - Kimberly Q. Castillo

Physical Science - Jen Aviciel B. Casillano

Specialized Subjects (Subject Teacher/Work Immersion Teacher & Adviser):

Electrical Installation Maintenance (EIM) - Marcos P. Anacta

Caregiving - Babylen A. Tanglao

Cookery - Melissa D. Astilla

Since the focus of face-to-face classes is specialized subjects for skills-building and on-site workshop equipment for students to utilize, the school's alternate schedule for on-campus classes was also highlighted in the orientation. This implies that the first week will be held on campus, while the second week will be modular distance learning, and so on.

Furthermore, it was emphasized during the orientation that if students begin to show signs and symptoms of COVID-19, they are advised to inform their adviser. However, in case students exhibit symptoms of infection on-campus, the school has readied an isolation room with Arriane Ross O. Ecle, Clinic Teacher and Vanessa P. Labro, Senior High School Nurse on duty. Vennette B. Peralta and Jen Aviciel B. Casillano, Registered Nurses and Teachers may also provide help whenever needed.

To ensure we avoid such occurrence and guarantee the safety of all students, teachers, faculty, and staff, the school has issued various safety measures to follow during on-site classes:

1. The students will receive QR codes, which they can scan through a cellphone provided by the school. These QR codes are different from the ones provided by Safe City Borongan. It includes the data of students, their attendance, age, address, parents' name and contact number, and section.

2. Frequently touched areas will be disinfected and sanitized regularly after every session.

3. Teachers will utilize their phones for scanning the record data of the students.

4. Students will refrain from going outside but are provided with restroom breaks and health breaks.

5. Snacks will be brought by the students themselves.

6. Pathways have been marked for traffic management.

7. Wash areas are located around the site for further strengthening of hygiene measures.

Classrooms ready utilities and signages to accord with health and preventive measures.

This implementation, spearheaded by Alfredo O. Basada, former ESNCHS principal; Dean Ernest Paul R. Hermano, Assistant Principal; and Vennette B. Peralta, TVL Subject Group Head, was only made possible by the combined efforts of TVL Teachers, Subject Heads and Teachers and all ESNCHS-SHS’ teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as faculty members from various school sectors such as utility, accounting, and finance. In addition, Harold Labro, a School and DepEd nurse, and Eugenio Malinao III, a DRRM coordinator, have also contributed significantly to the success of this operation.

Classrooms and labs are prepped for use for Monday, March 7.
